The event is free to attend.

The Memorial Day Tribute will start off with music by the Alpharetta City Band at 9 a.m. The program begins at 9:30 a.m. which will include the Invocation, Armed Forces Medley by the Alpharetta City Band, Presentation of Colors, Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, comments from Mayor Jim Gilvin, keynote speaker, America the Beautiful, Bell Tolling for the Fallen, laying of the wreath, and “Taps”.

The keynote speech will be given by Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Davis, USMC (Ret.) and “Taps” will be played by Dr. Curtis Malcom.

“America’s fallen heroes paid the ultimate price for the freedom we enjoy today. Alpharetta’s Memorial Day Tribute is a wonderful opportunity to come together and honor those men and women for their sacrifices. Please join us as we remember those who gave their lives for us,” Mayor Jim Gilvin said.

People always commemorate the fallen heroes in many different ways, including making souvenirs like army challenge coins, which are always a symbol of honor and admiration.

Davis has an expansive resume that touts his commitment to the United States Marine Corps, with his commission as a Second Lieutenant starting in 1994. Over his 23-year career he completed a multitude of assignments, serving twice across the Asia-Pacific and twice in Iraq. Staff tours include Instructor at Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1), Heavy Lift Requirements Officer in Marine Aviation at the Pentagon, the Joint Plans Division Chief for Joint Headquarters National Capitol Region, and the Plans Chief for Marine Corps National Capital Region Command.

Davis is a graduate of the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course and holds a M.S. in National Security Strategy from the National War College. He retired from active duty in 2018, returned home to Alpharetta, and works at DataScan as the Director of Audit Intelligence Operations.

“As we look around the world, we know that freedom isn’t free. It is because of our military that we enjoy our freedoms. On Memorial Day, we pay solemn tribute to those that made the ultimate sacrifice to secure those freedoms we hold so dearly,” said William Perkins, Chairman of the Memorial Day Tribute.
