Bicyclist Fatally Struck on Eisenhower Parkway

MACON — A fatal traffic collision occurred on Eisenhower Parkway in Bibb County just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday. According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place between Log Cabin Drive and Bloomfield Road.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that a 49-year-old male was riding a bicycle in the wrong direction, westbound in the eastbound lanes, when he was struck by a Lexus RX traveling eastbound in the left lane. The bicyclist was taken to Atrium Health where he was pronounced dead by the staff.

The 44-year-old driver of the Lexus, a resident of Macon, was treated and released at the scene without any further injuries.

The sheriff’s office said the identity of the deceased will be released once next of kin has been notified. The traffic collision is still under investigation, and the Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 478-751-7500.
