Gwinnett County's new police chief will be J.D. McClure. McClure currently serves as Deputy Chief and will become the county's first African American police chief. McClure will replace Police Chief Brett West, who will retire after 30 years of service to the county. McClure began his career as a police officer with Gwinnett County in 1996 and currently serves as deputy chief over the department’s Operations Bureau. LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett County Police say they have charged 29-year-old Justin Kattar on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of Felony Murder in a double shooting that happened around 3 a.m. Monday and resulted in the death of 24-year-old Brandon Ricks. According to police, Kattar has also been charged with cruelty to children in the 2nd degree since a child was present and witnessed the homicide.
