The Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame has inducted 15 new members, recognizing men and women from across the state whose service stretches from Korea to Iraq. With this class, more than 200 veterans have now been honored since the Hall was created in 2013.

The Hall recognizes veterans in three categories: Valor for heroism in combat, Achievement for career leadership, and Service for contributions beyond the battlefield. This year’s class includes heroes from nearly every major American conflict of the past 70 years.

Inductees Recognized for Valor

Ten of the 2025 honorees are being remembered for documented acts of heroism in war. They are:

  • Bobby Ray Bagley, Air Force Colonel from Cumming, Vietnam (posthumous)
  • John Charles Bahnsen, Army Brigadier General from Rochelle, Vietnam (posthumous)
  • Robert Paul Barclay, Army Colonel from Dahlonega, Vietnam (posthumous)
  • Robert George Coleman II, Air Force Colonel from Athens, Vietnam
  • Thomas Jefferson Courtney, Army Sergeant Major from Fayetteville, Vietnam (posthumous)
  • Charlie James Davis, Marine Corps Private First Class from Fort Valley, Korea
  • Martin Ernest Hamer, Army Major from Atlanta, Vietnam
  • James Elton Sehorn, Air Force Brigadier General from Warner Robins, Vietnam
  • Michael Dane Steele, Army Colonel from Statham, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iraq
  • Henry Lewis Thompson, Army Lieutenant Colonel from Watkinsville, Vietnam

Honorees for Service

Two inductees are recognized for service that went beyond combat:

  • Michael Hart Boyce, Marine Corps Colonel from Marietta, Desert Storm (posthumous)
  • Amy Maude Stevens, Navy Lieutenant from Marietta

Recognized for Achievement

Three veterans are being inducted for leadership and career-long achievement:

  • James Ronald Helmly, Army Lieutenant General from Jackson, Vietnam
  • James Bonnell Jarrard, Army Lieutenant General from Gainesville, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraq
  • Tommy Wayne Wilburn, Army Master Sergeant from Suches, Panama and Desert Storm

Why It Matters

The inductees represent towns and cities across Georgia, reminding the public that military service is deeply woven into the fabric of communities both large and small. Some, like Brigadier General John Bahnsen and Colonel Bobby Bagley, are remembered posthumously for their Vietnam-era service. Others, like Colonel Michael Steele and Lieutenant General James Jarrard, reflect the ongoing impact of more recent wars.

Together, the 2025 class offers a portrait of Georgia’s military history: courage under fire, leadership that shaped entire branches of service, and lives devoted to duty long after combat ended.
