🗳️ The Referendum: Gwinnett County residents will have the opportunity to shape the future of their transportation system on November 5, as the Board of Commissioners has approved a long talked about transit referendum to be placed on the General Election ballot.
💰 Funding the Plan:
- If approved by voters, the referendum would impose a one percent sales tax for 30 years.
- The tax would fund up to 75 transit projects throughout Gwinnett County.
- This Transit SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) aims to distribute the financial responsibility more equitably among all residents, businesses, and visitors, rather than placing the burden solely on property owners.
🚍 Proposed Improvements:
- The transit plan includes an airport ride to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, making travel more convenient for Gwinnett residents.
- Local bus service would be enhanced and expanded, providing better coverage throughout the county.
- Additional transit transfer facilities would be constructed to facilitate smoother connections between routes.
- Microtransit, a flexible and on-demand transportation option, would be expanded to provide 100 percent countywide coverage.
🚫 What’s Not Included: The new transit referendum does not include heavy rail or MARTA expansion within Gwinnett County.
