Residents in parts of south and southeast Georgia face heat index values up to 110 Friday. The heat advisories warn that high heat and humidity can cause heat illnesses.

Where the alerts apply: The three advisories begin at 11 a.m. EDT Friday.

  • Until 8 p.m., heat index up to 110: Seminole, Decatur, Grady, Thomas, Brooks, Lowndes and Lanier counties.
  • Until 8 p.m., heat index up to 110: Long County and inland and coastal parts of Bryan, Chatham, Liberty and McIntosh counties.
  • Until 7 p.m., heat index up to 108: Wayne, Brantley, Echols and Clinch counties; inland and coastal parts of Glynn and Camden counties; northeastern and western Charlton County; and southern Ware County.

Heat safety: Health officials say residents in the advisory areas should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning, avoid the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.

For south-central and southwest Georgia: According to the National Weather Service, those spending time outside should wear lightweight, loose clothing and limit hard physical activity to the early morning or evening. The advisory also calls for action when signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke appear.
