MACON -- A 26-year-old Mississippi man drowned in the Ocmulgee River in Bibb County Saturday.

MACON — A 26-year-old Mississippi man drowned in the Ocmulgee River in Bibb County Saturday.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, responded to Frank Amerson Park at the Ocmulgee River regarding the drowning at 10:23 a.m Saturday.

According to witnesses, there was a group walking the trails that decided to go for a swim. Andre J. Armstrong of Jackson Mississippi, started having trouble in the water. The four other people with him attempted to help, but were unable to rescue him from the river. 

The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department dive team was able to locate and recover Armstrong’s body. He was pronounced dead on scene by the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.
