HAZLEHURST — Two city council members who are running for reelection in Hazlehurst will not face any opposition in their bids to keep their seats.
Most residents may not be aware, but before you can run for office, you have to pay qualifying fees and officially qualify to appear on the ballot. During this week’s qualifying period, no one signed up to run against either incumbent.
Qualifying ended on Wednesday for Hazlehurst City Council seats for Ward 1 and Ward 2. Dywane Johnson of Ward 1 is unopposed, as is John Ramay of Ward 2.
🏁 What is Qualifying: While qualifying terms for each elected office may vary, all candidates who appear on a ballot must pay fees and qualify with their local elections office during what is called a qualifying period. Typically, qualifications include living in the area where the candidate seeks to hold office.
Incumbent: A person who already holds an elected office.
