Jon Burns, a Republican from Newington, has been nominated by the Georgia House Republican Caucus to serve a second term as Speaker of the House for the 2025-2026 legislative session.

“It has been an immense honor and privilege to serve as Georgia’s 75th Speaker of the House, and I am deeply grateful for the unwavering trust and support of my colleagues and friends,” Burns said. “As we reflect on all that we’ve achieved together, I’m more confident than ever that our caucus will continue to deliver meaningful results—whether it’s passing historic tax cuts, investing in education, expanding access to health care, or making our communities safer.”

The official election of the Speaker will take place when the Georgia House of Representatives convenes on January 13.

As Speaker, Burns is responsible for leading the House’s legislative agenda, overseeing floor sessions, assigning bills to committees, and guiding House procedures.
