The discovery of Morales’ remains on Highway 316 last week sparked an investigation by the Gwinnett Police Department.

Morales had been reported missing in July 2022 after leaving her home and walking to a friend’s house. She was last seen on Singleton Road near her home, and her cell phone indicated she was near Oak Loch Trace. Her family and friends had not heard from her since.

Last week a passerby called the police after spotting what they believed to be human remains in the woods near Highway 316 between Drowning Creek and the Barrow County Line. The Gwinnett Medical Examiner’s office took possession of the remains, and the police confirmed them to be Morales’.

The Gwinnett Police Department is continuing to investigate the manner and cause of Morales’ death. Anyone with information is asked to contact GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300.
