The Cobb Galleria Centre is ditching its longtime name as part of a massive renovation project that will change how people find and talk about the venue.

The New Name: And what is the new name for The Cobb Galleria? The venue will now be called The Cobb Convention Center-Atlanta.

What’s Happening: Cobb County commissioners voted 4-1 to approve changing the name last night. Commissioner Keli Gambrill cast the only no vote.

• The Cobb-Marietta Coliseum & Exhibit Hall Authority made the decision last month

• The same group owns the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre

Between the Lines: The facility sits in Marietta but now includes Atlanta in its official name. This follows a trend among metro area venues that use Atlanta’s brand power to attract more business. The Atlanta Braves also play in Cobb County.

The Big Picture: Convention centers compete hard for events and conferences. Adding Atlanta to the name could help the renovated space win more bookings against other venues across the Southeast.

The Sources: Cobb County Board of Commissioners meeting records and Cobb-Marietta Coliseum & Exhibit Hall Authority proceedings.
