This weekend, drivers in Atlanta should prepare for lane and ramp closures on the Midtown Connector as the Georgia Department of Transportation conducts resurfacing maintenance. The closures are planned to ensure the safety of both workers and motorists during the repair work.

The Details: Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 16, two left lanes on the I-85 southbound exit ramp to I-75 southbound will be closed. Additionally, the exit ramp from I-75 southbound to 17th Street will be temporarily closed. These closures are expected to remain in place until 5 a.m. Saturday morning, August 17.

What Drivers Need to Know: On-site signage will provide advance warning of the closures and detour information. Motorists are urged to reduce their speeds while driving through the work zone, stay alert, and avoid distractions, such as using phones while driving. GDOT recommends that drivers plan their routes in advance by using the 511GA app or website for real-time traffic updates and conditions.

Why It Matters: These maintenance activities are part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and infrastructure in the area. Adhering to traffic guidelines and planning ahead can help minimize delays and ensure a smoother commute for all drivers during these temporary closures.
