Yes, it’s true: Georgia will see freezing conditions this week

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for much of north and central Georgia, which will remain in effect from Monday evening through Wednesday morning.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 degrees are expected in most areas, with temperatures as low as 23 degrees in the upper elevations of north Georgia.

The freeze watch warns that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

To prevent damage, the National Weather Service advises residents to take precautions now. They recommend protecting tender plants from the cold by covering them with blankets or moving them indoors.

Outdoor water pipes should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly to prevent freezing and possible bursting. In-ground sprinkler systems should also be drained, and above-ground pipes covered to protect them from freezing.
