The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on the proposed improvements for the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project in Fulton, Cobb, and Douglas counties.

In keeping with Governor Brian Kemp’s directive to keep state government agencies functioning as Georgia combats the COVID-19 pandemic, GDOT will be hosting a virtual Public Information Open House by posting information related to the proposed project on an online platform at www.dot.ga.gov/I285I20W.

“We will continue to provide various options for the public to comment and participate in the process as we pursue this very important project,” said GDOT Program Manager Matthew Fowler.

Proposed improvements to the interchange include:

  • Reconstructing the interchange to remove left-hand exits and improve design speed, and modification and/or replacement of existing bridges and ramps
  • Constructing a collector-distributor system on I-20 westbound from the interchange to Fulton Industrial Boulevard.
  • Constructing lanes and providing improvements along I-20 from Thornton Road to Hamilton E. Holmes Drive
  • Modifying several bridges along I-20, including bridges over CSX Railroad and Chattahoochee River
  • Adding a new lane and improvements along I-285 southbound from D.L. Hollowell Parkway to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

There will be two, live-chat sessions scheduled for Sept. 22 and 24, from 4 to 7 p.m., allowing the public to ask questions of designated project Subject Matter Experts. For the full schedule and details on how to access the live-chat sessions, visit the online platform.

As part of the virtual experience, GDOT’s online platform includes an interactive meeting room with displays, videos, and materials that would be found at traditional in-person public meetings. The information in the virtual meeting room will be available throughout the public comment period.

To view the printed displays, please visit GDOT’s District 7 Office at 5025 New Peachtree Road, in Chamblee or GDOT’s Statewide Location Bureau at 3993 Aviation Circle, in Atlanta. The displays will be available weekdays, from Sept. 8 to Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. GDOT representatives will not be staffing these displays; however, you may submit questions regarding the project using any of the comment options available below.

Public comments can be accepted during the virtual open house and until Oct. 8 by Emailing your comments to WestInterchange@dot.ga.gov.
