The Houston County jail population dropped to 579 inmates after the sheriff’s office worked with law enforcement partners, prosecutors and courts to address overcrowding.

What’s Happening: Sheriff Matt Moulton says the Houston County Detention Center is back to a manageable and safe capacity after recent concerns about overcrowding.

What’s Important: People with active warrants and those who commit new crimes will still be arrested and taken to the jail as normal.

Catch Up Quick: The sheriff’s office worked with police, the District Attorney’s Office and the courts to reduce the jail population.
