The Marietta Police Department confirmed on Nov. 11 that Patricia Miele, an 89-year-old woman who had gone missing from Greenwood Assisted Living and Memory Care on Whitlock Avenue, was found dead after an extensive three-day search.
Miele was last seen late on Friday night, around 11 p.m., wearing a purple floral shirt, blue jeans, and slip-on shoes. Marietta Police had issued a Mattie’s Call, Georgia’s alert for missing elderly individuals, and mobilized a large search team, which included police officers, deputies, park rangers, canine units, drones, and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter.
Despite the extensive efforts, which also involved community support, the search concluded in tragedy.
Miele’s body was found in a pond near the assisted living facility.
Police Chief David Beam expressed his condolences to Miele’s family and loved ones, stating, “In Mrs. Miele, we saw our own mothers and grandmothers and we wanted nothing more than to find her safely and return her to you.”
