What’s Happening: The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia now sits at $2.90. That’s a penny higher than last week, a penny lower than last month, and seven cents less than the same time last year.

Filling up a standard 15-gallon tank costs drivers about $43.50. That’s roughly a dollar less than what drivers paid a year ago.

Who Said It: Montrae Waiters, a spokeswoman for AAA, said the rise in prices can be linked to crude oil prices. Waiters pointed out that crude oil has climbed into the mid-$70 range since the start of the year.

Regional Prices: Savannah tops the list for Georgia’s most expensive gas at $2.97 per gallon, followed by Atlanta at $2.93 and Macon at $2.92.
For cheaper fuel, drivers in Albany pay $2.81, Dalton drivers pay $2.79, and residents in the Catoosa-Dade-Walker area see prices as low as $2.75.

National Average: Gas prices nationwide have also edged up. The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline across the country is $3.06, which is four cents more than last week.

Why This Matters: Higher fuel prices often lead to increased costs for goods and services. Drivers may want to budget more for transportation expenses if the upward trend continues.

Money-Saving Tips: AAA recommends checking local prices with tools like the Fuel Price Finder. Drivers may also save by paying with cash instead of credit cards to avoid extra fees. Enrolling in loyalty programs at gas stations can also help reduce costs.

What’s Next: Prices may continue to fluctuate as global crude oil markets respond to supply and demand. Drivers are encouraged to stay informed and explore cost-saving options.
