Two of Georgia’s largest school systems are responding to the tragic school shooting in Texas by beefing up security.
In Gwinnett County, the police department announced Tuesday night that the department would be working with Gwinnett County Public Schools to conduct extra patrols and provide a high visibility presence to all schools in the county.
“While there are no known threats to any school in Gwinnett, our officers will be on hand for the safety and comfort of residents,” Police spokesperson J.R. Richter said.
In Fulton County, the school system announced that the remaining two days of the school year would include heightened security.
The school system is assuring parents that the Fulton County Police Department, Campus Security Associates and administrators would be vigilant and aware of safety concerns in the community.
The school system will also be available for students who want to talk about their feelings on the tragedy or to seek counsel.
The death toll in the Texas school massacre stands at 19 children and two adults.
