A new survey shows that Americans are planning to spend more this Black Friday, with many leaning on online shopping and mobile devices to find the best deals.
Hostinger’s report, based on responses from 1,000 U.S. shoppers, showing changes in buying habits, the influence of marketing, and the growing importance of sustainability.
Spending More This Year: About 31% of Americans plan to increase their spending compared to last year. Men are especially likely to boost their budgets, while Gen Z shoppers remain focused on smaller purchases, with most planning to stay within the $100–$299 range.
Shopping Preferences: Shoppers are embracing a mix of online and in-store experiences, with 63.5% saying they will use both methods. Nearly 30% plan to stick to online-only purchases. Mobile devices are becoming the go-to choice for younger shoppers, with 46% opting for phones over desktops or laptops.
Sustainability on the Radar: Younger generations are prioritizing eco-friendly options. Sustainability is important to 64.4% of Gen Z shoppers, compared to just 29% of Baby Boomers. Businesses that emphasize green practices could gain favor with these younger consumers.
Why It Matters: For shoppers, Black Friday is still the best time to score deals, but trends show they’re also looking for speed, convenience, and sustainable choices. Price remains the top factor for 62% of consumers, so retailers offering deep discounts are likely to attract the most buyers.
The Influence of Marketing: Digital marketing continues to shape buying decisions, with nearly 60% of shoppers saying email promotions influence their purchases. Impulse buying is also on the rise, especially among women and Gen Z, who are most likely to make unplanned purchases.
What’s Next: Retailers who focus on creating seamless mobile shopping experiences, emphasize sustainability, and deliver competitive pricing will be well-positioned for success. For shoppers, staying aware of deals and focusing on their priorities can help make the most of this year’s Black Friday.
