A Macon man is in jail after reportedly attacking a bystander with a knife and chasing someone down Cherry Street during the lunch hour Monday.
What We Know: Deputies responded to a call at 12:27 p.m. Monday about a man with a knife threatening people at Dempsey Apartments on Cherry Street. When officers arrived, they found the man already detained by a chief state court investigator.
Witnesses said the suspect, 58-year-old Anthony Bernard Perkins, had been arguing with someone when he pulled a knife and struck a man nearby. He then chased the person he was fighting with into the street before being stopped. The bystander had non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.
By The Numbers: Perkins, a Macon resident, faces charges of aggravated assault and battery. He is being held without bond.
What We Don’t Know: Authorities have not shared what sparked the initial argument or why Perkins targeted the bystander.
