A 5-year-old girl died Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle on White Hill Road in Screven County, according to the Screven County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 6:25 a.m. when Screven 911 received the initial report. Emergency responders arrived at the scene within four minutes and found the child, who was then rushed to the Emergency Room at Optim Medical Center in Sylvania.
Despite medical efforts, the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigation Ongoing
The Georgia State Patrol has taken over the investigation, which remains active. The sheriff’s office is directing anyone seeking additional information to contact the Georgia State Patrol directly.
No details about the circumstances of the crash or the driver involved have been released at this time.
“Our hearts are broken by the tragic loss of such a young and precious life,” the Screven County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “On behalf of the entire Screven County Sheriff’s Office, we extend our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the family and all those affected by this heartbreaking event.”
