A lifetime of public service came to an end with the passing of former Walton County Sheriff Lamar Palmer, who died at age 92, according to an announcement from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Palmer’s career spanned decades of community dedication, beginning with service in the U.S. Air Force before transitioning to law enforcement as a Monroe Police officer. He later joined the Walton County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy before being elected sheriff.

“His commitment to and his love for Walton County was never ending,” the Sheriff’s Office shared in their statement. “He continued to give even as he reached 92 years old.”

Even after his tenure as sheriff concluded, Palmer’s public service continued as he served as a Walton County district commissioner, capping a remarkable career dedicated to the community.

A Legacy of Service

Palmer’s dedication to Walton County remained unwavering throughout his long life, with his commitment to public service extending well into his 90s.

Law enforcement colleagues expressed their grief at his passing, with the Sheriff’s Office concluding their announcement with a simple but heartfelt tribute: “We will miss you, Sheriff Palmer.”
