It’s officially pumpkin spice season, and everyone is looking forward to ordering the seasonal drink that’s returned to coffee stores nationwide. There have been 683k Google searches for ‘pumpkin spice’ in the past month alone, an 186% monthly increase, showing the drink is soaring in demand as fall approaches.

However, Motoring experts from Nationwide Vehicle Contracts have revealed why drivers should NOT order a pumpkin spice latte when ordering at a drive-thru this fall.

Pumpkin spice lattes can lead to an ant infestation

Car experts have revealed that your favorite drink this fall, a pumpkin spice latte, will attract ants and insects into your vehicle. Ants and bugs are extremely attracted to sugar. The sugar content in a pumpkin spice latte is high, and the warm sweet smell of the drink can attract unwanted insects into your vehicle.

$1,000 fine for drivers who overreact to bugs whilst driving

Motoring experts from Nationwide Vehicle Contracts acknowledge that “insects are an inconvenience for drivers, especially for drivers with severe phobias. However, ensuring safety on the roads for yourself and others around you while driving is paramount.

Drivers can be fined up to $1,000 for reckless driving and up to a year imprisonment, so it is paramount for drivers not to overreact and not to allow insects to impact their safety on the roads.”

Keith Hawes, Director at Nationwide Vehicle Contracts, has shared crucial advice for keeping bugs out of your vehicle this spider season.

How to keep bugs out of your vehicle this fall

1. Don’t leave food in your vehicle

Leaving hot drinks, like a pumpkin spice latte, in your car could attract insects and unwanted spiders. Keeping your car clean will mitigate the risk of spiders being attracted to it. Ensuring food and drink products are sealed and not left inside your car for long periods will minimize insects in your car.

2. Regularly inspect your vehicle

Frequently check your vehicle for insects and ants, especially looking in crevices and hidden areas. Underneath child seats and beneath seatbelts are common places where insects may hide. Frequently checking your vehicle and removing insects will minimize the risk of insects reproducing or festering.

 3. Use citrus products

Using citrus products inside your vehicle, such as an air freshener, will keep insects away, as bugs don’t like the smell of citrus fruits. Rubbing lemon peels around your vehicle’s doors and windows can solve the issue of unwanted bugs inside your vehicle.
