The Gist: After an intense search involving air and ground units, Terry Arnold Owens, a 41-year-old man wanted out of Florida, was captured near mile marker 12 on Northbound I-95.

What Happened: Owens initially eluded deputies during a routine traffic stop. Ditching his car, he crossed Southbound I-95, scaled a fence, and vanished into the woods on the west side of the highway. The area around Billyville Road became a hub of police activity as ground teams and aircraft scrambled to find him. A bloodhound unit led by Lt. Rusty Prescott was mobilized, sniffing a scent object to begin tracking Owens.

The search reached its climax when a Georgia Department of Natural Resources helicopter, guided by a fixed-wing aircraft from the U.S. Custom Service, hovered above and spotted Owens.

Why It Matters: Owens, who has a record as a sexual predator in Florida, posed a significant risk to local communities. His capture is not just a law enforcement win but a relief for the residents of Camden County and beyond.

What’s Next: After a checkup by Camden County Fire and Rescue EMTs, Owens was taken to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office. He is awaiting the next steps in legal proceedings, which will likely include extradition to Florida.

Acknowledgments: Camden Sheriff Jim Proctor extended his gratitude to the multiple agencies that lent a hand in the manhunt, including U.S. Custom Service, U.S. Border Patrol, Navy Criminal Investigative Service, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and Glynn County for aerial drone support.
