22-year-old Dies After Being Rescued from Lake Lanier

The Gist: A tragic incident at Lake Lanier claimed the life of a 22-year-old man after a near-drowning experience that he later died from.

What Happened?: Brayan Tarasona with friends at Van Pugh Park off Gaines Ferry Road. Witnesses said Tarasona and two companions decided to go for a swim. Diving into the deep waters, Tarasona tried making his way back to the shore, but he submerged and did not resurface.

Hall County Fire Rescue’s marine team arrived promptly after a drowning was reported. Utilizing the marine rescue technology, the team deployed MR-1 sonar equipment to locate him. Once pinpointed, a Remotely Operated Vehicle was set in motion to retrieve Tarasona, bringing him up to the surface. Awaiting medical personnel rushed him to the nearest hospital in critical condition, but despite best efforts, he later died.
