81-year-old Calhoun man dies in motorcycle crash

The Gist: A tragic incident claimed the life of an 81-year-old motorcyclist, Tomas Garcia Marquez Jr. of Calhoun, following a crash Red Bud Road on Tuesday afternoon.

What Happened? While heading westbound on Red Bud Road, police say Marquez lost control of his motorcycle, causing it to fishtail. The motorcycle then crossed over into the eastbound lane, colliding with the right front passenger side of an SUV.

After the collision, the motorcycle came to a halt on an embankment, close to the Garden Heights Apartments near the intersection with Highpoint Drive.

Marquez was pronounced dead at the scene.

What’s Next? The Calhoun Police Department is currently leading the investigation into the incident.
