Doraville police officer arrested in connection with Gwinnett teen's death: What we know

NORCROSS — Miles Bryant, a 22-year-old Doraville police officer from Norcross, has been arrested in connection with the death of 16-year-old Susana Morales.

The Gwinnett County Police Department charged Bryant with concealing the death of another and false report of a crime.

He is being held without bond at the Gwinnett Detention Center.

The Doraville Police Dept. released the following statement about Bryant’s arrest:

“The City of Doraville was notified the afternoon of Monday, February 13 that a now former police officer was being served felony arrest warrants by the Gwinnett Police Department in connection with the disappearance and murder of Susana Morales. The City of Doraville and its Police Department are fully cooperating with the Gwinnett Police Department in its investigation of Mr. Bryant. Our prayers rest with the family and friends of Susana Morales and everyone else affected by this tragedy..”

The discovery of Morales’ remains on Highway 316 last week sparked an investigation by the Gwinnett Police Department.

Morales had been reported missing in July 2022 after leaving her home and walking to a friend’s house. She was last seen on Singleton Road near her home, and her cell phone indicated she was near Oak Loch Trace. Her family and friends had not heard from her since.

Last week a passerby called the police after spotting what they believed to be human remains in the woods near Highway 316 between Drowning Creek and the Barrow County Line. The Gwinnett Medical Examiner’s office took possession of the remains, and the police confirmed them to be Morales’.

The Gwinnett Police Department is continuing to investigate the manner and cause of Morales’ death. Anyone with information is asked to contact GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300. To remain anonymous, tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or visit www.stopcrimeATL.com.
