Georgia man shot and killed by deputy in Valdosta

VALDOSTA — The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Valdosta, Lowndes County, GA. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office asked the Georgie Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent investigation on Monday, June 13.

What we know: One man was shot and is dead. No officers were injured during the incident.

According to the GBI, preliminary information indicates that deputies were dispatched by 911 to a home on Ginger Trail because a man with a gun was threatening to hurt himself.

When deputies arrived, they found the man, later identified as 32-year-old Timothy Adams, behind the home with a handgun. During the incident, a deputy shot the Adams.

Adams later died at the hospital.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.

This is the 59th officer involved shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate in 2022.
