A 21-year-old man accused of raping a teenager in a wooded area near a lake has been arrested in Henry County.
The rape occurred on March 15.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office,Trenton Carmichael was apprehended after allegedly luring the teenager through social media. Carmichael allegedly presented himself as an 18-year old and provided Lyft transportation for the young girl to meet.
“Upon arrival, the teenage girl reportedly attempted to leave after realizing that Carmichael was older than he claimed,” said sheriff’s office spokesperson Sytonnia Moore. “At that point, Carmichael reportedly forcibly raped her near a wooded area and lake.”
Henry County Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett is reminding parents to monitor the online activity of their children.
“Situations of this magnitude break your heart. Speaking as a father, I have daughters and you want nothing more than to protect them,” Scandrett said. “I can’t urge parents enough to monitor online activity and educate their children about the dangers of social media and predators.”
Authorities are investigating a past similar incident that could’ve involved Carmichael, who is being charged with one count of Rape, Aggravated Sodomy, and Aggravated Assault.
He’s currently being housed in the Henry County Jail.
