SUWANEE — A new fire station will be built near the planned Town Center on Main Park project in Suwanee.
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners awarded a construction manager at risk contract to Reeves Young, LLC, for the construction of a new Fire Station 13.
The city of Suwanee will provide two acres of land at the intersection of the new Main Street library driveway and Suwanee Dam Road. Gwinnett County will fund and manage the design and construction of the station, not to exceed $7 million, and will construct related road improvements to Main Street and the intersection with Suwanee Dam Road. The county’s share of the project is funded by the 2017 SPLOST program.
The 11,000-square-foot station at 105 Main Street will house a fire engine, an ambulance, and a minimum of five firefighters and paramedics each day. To accommodate future growth in the area, the station was designed accommodate up to 11 personnel at a time. The facility will be an EarthCraft certified building with sustainable green initiatives.

“This new station will enable Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services to continue to provide the outstanding service that people have come to expect,” said Fire Chief Russell Knick. “It is strategically placed to enhance the emergency response capabilities and the community risk reduction initiatives of the department.”
District 1 Commissioner Kirkland Carden said the project was made possible through the collaboration between the city and the County.
“This just shows the kind of good things that can happen when cities and county government work together for the benefit of the public,” Carden said.
The station, set to open next winter, will feature three drive-thru apparatus bays, gear and equipment room, industrial grade kitchen, administrative office area, and individual bunkroom cubicles with separate male and female locker and shower facilities.
