DUNWOODY — Some Dunwoody residents got what they considered to be a “rude awakening” at about 4:15 a.m. on Halloween.

The surprise wakeup call came from phone calls and text messages sent by the city’s implementation of the Nixle alert system alerting residents of Thursday night’s freeze warning.

According to city officials, the alert was an automatic alert from the National Weather Service that was distributed through Nixle.

The Dunwoody Police Department manages the Nixle Alert System and is working with Nixle to investigate why an alert of this nature that was not urgent went out so early in the morning.

This was an automatic alert and not one that involved police personnel. According to reports, several recipients of the alert are not Dunwoody residents or have never signed up for Dunwoody alerts through Nixle.
