76-Year-Old Macon Woman Dies Following Train Collision

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 76-year-old Cheryl Rawls, of Macon, has died following injuries sustained in a collision involving a train and her SUV on Tucker Road near Forsyth Road. The collision occurred on the afternoon of November 15, 2024.

• The crash was reported to the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center at 2:35 p.m. on November 15.

• Witnesses stated that the train crossing gate came down on Rawls’ vehicle before the train struck it.

• Rawls, initially listed in critical condition, succumbed to her injuries on November 18, as reported by Coroner Leon Jones.

The Details: Sheriff’s officials say Rawls was unable to move her vehicle out of the train’s path before it was struck. The crash remains under investigation.
