The Atlanta Police Department posted a friendly reminder on social media not to call 911 because you can’t find your glasses.
According to the department, while lost glasses could be considered a personal emergency and can cause a great deal of anxiety, lost glasses cannot be considered a true “emergency” warranting a 911 call.
The dedicated men in women in E-911 answer an average of 2,400 calls daily. Calls asking for police help to find glasses or other lost personal items clog emergency lines and take valuable dispatcher time away from life-or-death situations and other true emergencies.
If you lose your glasses, keys, or other items, the police department is asking you to call your family members and friends to help you locate the item.
Police officials say that while they sympathize with anyone who has lost their glasses, it is important that 911 lines are kept open for true emergencies where someone’s life or property is in immediate danger.
As a reminder for those who may have forgotten, the Atlanta Police Department provided a helpful list of when to call 911.
When to call 911:
• A crime is in progress or has just occurred
• Threats or immediate risk to life or property
• Theft or intentional damage to property
