If you’re wondering when it’s legally justifiable to use deadly force in Georgia, the Marietta Police laid out some guidelines earlier today in a social media post.
Georgia law allows you to use deadly force to prevent death, serious injury, or a felony. However, this is only permissible if a “reasonable person” would do the same in your situation.
The term “reasonable person standard” serves as the legal benchmark. In essence, your actions will be judged based on what a reasonable person would have done under similar conditions. Keep in mind, however, that what is deemed “reasonable” can differ among judges, juries, and prosecutors.
If you own a gun, be sure to familiarize yourself with Georgia law.
The Marietta Police remind gun owners that pulling the trigger is an irreversible act with potential legal ramifications.
