A Burke County deputy’s sharp eye and quick response may have stopped a fire from turning into a disaster.
Just The Facts:
- A fire broke out near Briar Creek Bridge on Story Mill Road early Saturday morning.
- Lieutenant Cory Barrs spotted the flames while on patrol at 8:30 a.m. on January 6, 2024.
- Fire crews arrived quickly after Barrs called 911, containing the fire before it spread.
The Details: Barrs was patrolling the Story Mill Road area when he noticed smoke coming from the tree line. Acting fast, he reported the fire to Burke County 911, prompting a swift response from fire units E07 and B701.
Thanks to Barrs’ quick actions, firefighters were able to control the flames before strong winds could push them deeper into the wooded area.
