CALHOUN — If you are a Calhoun resident and would like to throw your name in the hat during the next city election, now is the time to act.
There will be a city election Nov. 5, and the mayor’s seat, two city council seats and two school board seats will be determined during that election.
Qualifying for the municipal general election will be held at the Calhoun City Hall at 226 S. Wall Street beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19 and ending at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21.
Below are the positions that are up for election and the required qualifying fees to run for those offices.

Mayor: Currently held by James F. Palmer- Qualifying Fee $432.00
Council Post 1: Currently held by Jackie Palazzolo- Qualifying Fee $252.00
Council Post 2: Currently held by Al Edwards- Qualifying Fee $252.00
School Board Post 4: Currently held by Eddie Reeves- Qualifying Fee $1.00
School Board Post 5: Currently held by Tony Swink- Qualifying Fee $1.00
Early voting will begin and absentee ballots will be available at the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office Monday, Oct. 14.
Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The last day to cast your ballot early or to request an absentee ballot is Friday, Nov. 1, 2019. The Gordon County Board of Elections Office is located in the Gordon County Government Plaza at 215 N. Wall Street.
The last day to register to vote for the municipal general election is Monday, Oct. 7. Registration is available at the Gordon County Board of Elections Office, City Hall or other locations as required by Georgia Law.
