Erin Michelle West, a Kennesaw State University graduate and substitute teacher, was killed Monday, December 16 in a school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconson. She was 42.
West, originally from St. Charles, Missouri, graduated from Harrison High School in 2000 before earning her degree from Kennesaw State in 2005. She married Jack West later that year in Powder Springs.
Authorities identified the shooter as 15-year-old Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow, a student at the school. Rupnow shot and killed West along with 14-year-old Rubi Patricia Vergara, a freshman, before taking her own life. Six others were injured.
West had been working as a substitute teacher and was known for her involvement in church activities and school events. She was also a member of Doxa Church in Madison, where she volunteered regularly.
West is survived by her husband, Jack, and their three daughters—Emery, Laurel, and Adleigh. She is also survived by her parents, Teresa and Larry Etherton, and her sister, Jennifer Bruce.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, December 23, 2024, at 12 noon at Doxa Church, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A livestream of the service will be available on the funeral home’s website.
