A pre-dawn fire at the International Paper chip mill in Eden was put out fast Tuesday, according to Effingham County Fire Rescue. Crews found a chip conveyor and a nearby chip pile burning and kept it from spreading.
What’s Happening: Effingham County Fire Rescue says units arrived just after 5 a.m. and brought the conveyor fire under control. Mill crews used heavy equipment to spread the chip pile so firefighters could fully douse hot spots. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
Why It Matters: Industrial fires can escalate quickly and threaten workers, nearby roads, and the local air. A quick stop before sunrise means no shutdown ripple effects or injuries for neighbors to worry about.
Catch Up Quick: The fire department reports the scene was contained on site, with no damage to buildings and no reported injuries. The agency credited International Paper staff for a safe, efficient response.
