Georgia has a high risk of fires this weekend. Here's why

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement warning residents in portions of North and Central Georgia about high fire danger conditions.

The warning was issued at 3:06 a.m. today due to low relative humidities expected this afternoon into the evening.

According to the statement, relative humidities of 25 percent or less can be expected for four or more hours, with winds blowing northwest at 5 to 10 mph.

These dry conditions increase the risk of wildfires and residents are urged to use caution.

The statement further advises residents to check with their local burn permitting authorities before burning outdoors. Those who do decide to burn outside are urged to take extreme caution to prevent the spread of fires.

With dry fuels and high winds, the risk of fires spreading quickly is a significant concern. Residents should remain vigilant and report any fires immediately to the authorities.
