As the school year ends, Gwinnett County Public Schools is saying goodbye to 518 dedicated teachers and staff members. These educators have spent a total of 12,710 combined years in education. They have dedicated 10,772 of those years to helping students in Gwinnett County.
Impressive Numbers
Out of the 518 retirees, 295 of them, or 57%, have spent their entire careers in the Gwinnett school system. This includes working in classrooms, offices, cafeterias, buses, and shops. Their dedication shows their passion for education and their belief in the school district’s mission.
Years of Service
- 30+ Years of Service: 164 retirees have worked 30 or more years in education.
- 40+ Years of Service: 14 retirees have worked over 40 years in the field.
- 45 Years of Service: Two amazing individuals have worked 45 years in education.
These numbers show the huge impact these teachers and staff members have had on many students over the years.
Leaders and Administrators
The retirees include two cluster superintendents and five principals. They also include experienced central office leaders. Their leadership has helped shape the policies and direction of GCPS, ensuring the district’s excellence.
Classroom Heroes
Many of the retirees are classroom teachers who have inspired and taught generations of students. Their dedication to teaching and their ability to adapt to changes have made a lasting impact on their students’ lives.
Support Staff: The Unsung Heroes
The list of retirees also includes counselors, custodial staff, media clerks, media specialists, and many longtime support staff members. These staff members have worked hard behind the scenes to create a safe, clean, and supportive environment for students and staff.
A Message of Thanks
Superintendent Dr. Calvin J. Watts expressed his heartfelt thanks to the retirees on behalf of the Gwinnett County Board of Education. “Your careers and your dedication to our students have furthered the heart work of supporting teaching and learning in this school district,” he said. “Our gratitude goes with all of you as you write the next, best chapter of your lives.”
