After COVID caused Georgia Milestones scores to drop, the 2024 results improved and even outdid pre-pandemic scores.
The Georgia Milestones are statewide assessments for each grade level to see if they meet the Department of Education’s standards, and the scores in Fulton County significantly increased in 2024. Fulton County also achieved higher growth than the Georgia average.
Due to COVID 19, Georgia Milestones Assessment grades dropped in 2020 and 2021, but Fulton County has handled the road to recovery with grace.
Georgia implemented new math standards in 2023, and in 2024, the results came out late to ensure the most accurate representation of these standards. When the scores came out, they exceeded the ones from before the pandemic. Each grade has shown abundant growth.
- 4th and 5th graders have a high growth percentile of 35.4%.
- Middle schoolers achieved a high growth percentile of 38.1%.
- Algebra students have a high growth percentile of 44.6%.
- Because the normal percentage of high growth for the state is only 34%, Fulton County showed a larger level of progress than the state average at every level.
“We are incredibly proud of our students, but especially proud of the commitment of our teachers as well as our families,” Fulton County Chief Academic Officer, Brannon Gaskins claims. These test results are one way to monitor that schools are achieving state-standards and your students are learning.
