A teenager survived multiple gunshot wounds after fleeing to a neighbor’s home during a domestic dispute that claimed the life of their mother, an off-duty Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Deputy.

What’s Happening: The teen escaped to a neighbor’s home Saturday evening after being shot multiple times during an argument between their mother and her boyfriend, Eric Sumner.

  • The quick-thinking neighbor applied pressure to the teen’s wounds until emergency personnel arrived, likely saving the young victim’s life.
  • Deputies found the mother dead in an upstairs bedroom when they entered the home.

Between the Lines: Sumner, 43, of Suwanee, fled the scene but was captured after a brief chase on I-75 in Monroe County. He faces charges of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with intent to murder, with additional charges pending.
