A 29-year-old Gwinnett County mother is in custody after an investigation into the death of her 2-year old daughter, who Gwinnett police say died of malnutrition.
On July 24, Devin Moon called police to report that her 2-year-old daughter Reygan was unresponsive and cold to the touch. Police arrived and determined Reygan was dead at the scene.
According to detectives who interviewed the mother, Moon said Reygan was born with medical issues which prevented the child from gaining weight. The mother was not charged at the time.
Police say their investigation revealed that the mother left her daughter home alone most nights while she went to work and that Moon had previously been reported to DFCS by her family.
According to a news release, an autopsy revealed Reygan died of malnutrition and no other medical issues were discovered that would have lead to the child’s death. Reygan’s weight at the time of death was 14 pounds.
Detectives obtained warrants for cruelty to children in the first degree and felony murder. Devin Moon was arrested and remains in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
