17-year-old shot by Cobb Police officer dies

A 17-year-old who was shot by the Cobb County Police Monday died in the hospital. The 17-year-old has been identified as Vincent Demario Truitt of Atlanta.

According to the GBI, preliminary information indicates that at about 11:20 p.m., Monday, Cobb County Police officers located a stolen vehicle being driven in the vicinity of 291 Riverside Parkway in Austell.

The car was reported stolen in Atlanta earlier in the day. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle which was occupied by three men. The driver did not stop, and a chase ensued. The vehicle traveled behind a building located at 270 Riverside Parkway, which was a dead-end. 

When the vehicle stopped, two of the men ran and were pursued by officers.

According to the GBI, during the incident, Truitt brandished a handgun and was shot by one of the Cobb County Police officers.

Officers rendered medical aid on scene. Truitt was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died.
