Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies shot and killed a 42-year-old woman at her home Monday after police say she threatened them with a pistol. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the incident.

According to the GBI, preliminary information indicates that at about 10:42 a.m., Monday, a 911 operator received a call from a female, identified as 42-year-old Ida Christy Stiles. Police say Stiles was requesting deputies be dispatched to a residence on Martha Lane.

According to the sheriff’s department, deputies arrived at the residence and made verbal contact with Stiles. After several attempts to get Stiles to the door, the deputies entered Stiles’ residence and were confronted by Stiles, who they said brandished a pistol.

Three Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies shot their guns at Stiles, resulting in her death.

It was later determined that the pistol brandished by Stiles was a CO2 pistol in the style of a 357 revolver.

Stiles will be transported to the GBI Crime Lab where an autopsy will be performed.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.

The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Towaliga Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
