Suspect in shooting near Colony Square in Midtown Atlanta in custody

UPDATE: Atlanta Police say the shooter is in custody.

The female suspect was located at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and taken into custody without incident.

Police have reopened Midtown area buildings, but are still advising the public to remain clear of the area due to increased traffic.

The suspect was arrested and identified as Raissa Kengne. She was charged with two counts of murder – felony, four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, and false imprisonment.

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are working an active situation in Midtown.

Preliminary information indicates three people have been shot in the Colony Square area.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to a person shot call at 1280 W. Peachtree Street at 1:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located two people who appeared to have been shot.

Police say one of the victims has died and the second was taken to the hospital for treatment. While at 1280 W. Peachtree Street, officers received another call of a person shot at 1100 Peachtree Street. Upon arrival there, officers located one person who appeared to have been shot. The individual was taken to the hospital for treatment. 

Initial information indicates an unknown woman is responsible for these incidents.

Multiple officers responded to the Midtown area and began searching for the female suspect.

It is unclear whether the suspect remained in the area or has left. Investigators are following up on all leads in an effort to locate the suspect.

What we know so far:

  1. A total of three people have been shot.
  2. One of the victims has died. Two were taken to the hospital for treatment (condition unknown at this time).
  3. The last shot appears to have been fired around 2:15 p.m.
  4. The attached photos depict the individual we believe is responsible for the shootings.

Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shootings.

  1. It is unclear what led to the shootings.
  2. Police are investigating the connection between the locations.
  3. Police are working to determine whether the victims were targeted by the suspect or whether any of the victims were shot randomly.
  4. Police have received information indicating the female may have left the location and police are actively following up on all leads related to that possibility.
  5. Other information indicates the female could still be in the area. Officers are searching the area and following up on all leads in an attempt to locate her.

Police have blocked off multiple areas in Midtown and some buildings have been directed to shelter in place. Police advise the public to stay clear of the area while the active investigation is underway.
