The Gist: Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents are looking into a police shooting in Savannah, where Quayshon Whitehurst, 29, was shot after allegedly firing at a police officer.

The Details: On June 18 at around 7:20 p.m., the Savannah Police Department responded to a theft report at Mary Jane’s CBD Dispensary at 4317 Ogeechee Road.

According to Police, Whitehurst, from Hinesville, allegedly stole a bookbag from an employee and fled. Officers located him behind the Circle K convenience store across the street. When confronted, police say Whitehurst reportedly drew a gun and fired at an officer, who then returned fire, injuring Whitehurst. Officers administered medical aid until EMS arrived, and Whitehurst was transported to a local hospital where he is in stable condition.
