Today is Giving Tuesday. This is the day of the holiday shopping season devoted to charitable giving and is an important day for local nonprofits. If you have a charity you like and have been meaning to give, today is the day to do it.

Here are a few news items you may have missed yesterday.

  • If you don’t live in North Georgia, are weren’t paying attention, you may have missed the fact that Georgia had some brief snow flurries yesterday. It didn’t amount to much, but it was a nice way to welcome December.
  • If you’ve been wondering what Georgia’s plan is for distributing the COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes available, the governor gave some details yesterday about who gets it first and when.
  • As President Donald Trump continues to attack local elections officials and the governor — all republicans — those same officials are dismissing allegations of fraud in Georgia’s elections.

Georgia reported 1,535 confirmed cases of COVID-19 yesterday with an additional 576 positive rapid tests. There were no confirmed deaths yesterday and there were 42 hospitalizations. Georgia is currently at 81.5% of its ICU capacity statewide.

Weather:

Temperatures are below freezing this morning. Expect a high of 42 degrees today with temperatures dipping down to a low of 28 degrees tonight. There is no rain in the forecast.

Other News:

  • 60% of students at Grady High School in Atlanta have voted to change the school’s name to Midtown High School.
  • Violent crime has become a big issue in Macon. According to The Macon Telegraph, nine people died as a result of violent crime in November.
  • Mike Pence will be in Savannah on Friday.
