A 51-year-old man is dead after his motorcycle crashed while he was trying to avoid a collision, Bibb County Sheriff's officials say.

A 51-year-old man is dead after his motorcycle crashed while he was trying to avoid a collision, Bibb County Sheriff’s officials say.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal traffic crash that took place just before 6 p.m. Saturday.

The crash occurred on Emery Highway westbound, just before the intersection of Short Street East.

Witnesses say the driver of a motorcycle lost control after attempting to avoid a vehicle that merged into his lane. The driver lost control and flipped the motorcycle. The vehicle that merged into the lane continued westbound and may not have known they merged in front of the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist later identified as 51-year-old Aaron West was transported to the Navicent Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
