Here’s how Hurricane Zeta will affect North Georgia

North Georgia is expected to feel the effects of Hurricane Zeta today and tomorrow. The hurricane is expected to make landfall in Southeast Louisiana, bringing strong winds and flooding to much of north Georgia.

Most of north Georgia is under a tropical storm watch until 11 a.m. Thursday with a broader area under a flash flood watch until 8 p.m. Thursday as well.

Strong winds are expected to begin early Thursday morning and continue through Thursday afternoon. According to the National Weather Service, the strongest winds are expected in west and north Georgia. Winds are expected to be 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 45 miles per hour. The weather service says this is enough wind to bring down trees and power lines.

Heavy rain is expected Wednesday morning through Thursday evening with the heaviest rain expected in the higher elevations of the northeast. According to the National Weather Service, residents can expect about two to four inches of rain, which could lead to flash flooding.
